Cleveland Browns player robbed at gunpoint by 6 masked men outside night club, other player’s truck stolen

News & Politics

The Cleveland Browns football team confirmed that at least one player had been robbed at gunpoint outside a night club within 24 hours of another player’s truck being stolen.

One of the players, Greg Newsome II, issued a cryptic tweet in apparent reference to the robbery. “It’s a cruel world we live in,” he wrote Monday and added the emoji for prayer.

Newsome, a cornerback, had been at the Rumor Bar and Lounge in downtown Cleveland with Perrion Winfrey, a defensive tackle, when one of the players was accosted by six masked robbers in a nearby parking lot at about 3:30 in the morning on Monday.

The robbers stole his jewelry and sped away in a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX truck owned by one of the players. The other player reportedly remained inside the bar and did not witness the robbery.

No one is in custody for the crime, and nobody was injured in the incident.

Although a GPS was used to track the vehicle, it was moving so quickly that it couldn’t be intercepted, according to a report from WKYC-TV. They also reported that no surveillance cameras appeared to point at the parking lot where the incident occurred.

On Sunday, running back Demetric Felton also reported to police that his 2023 Dodge Durango Hellcat had been stolen from a parking garage.

The two incidents occurred within 24 hours. The team’s head coach addressed the robberies on Tuesday.

“I’m glad our guys are OK,” said Kevin Stefanski to reporters. “I want all of our community to be safe. The Cleveland police have been outstanding. We want everybody to be safe, and we want to get violent people off of our streets.”

All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett told reporters that he was grateful his teammates were unharmed.

“At the end of the day, we got to do better as a community. We got to set an example, and it starts with us,” said Garrett.

“And we got to go into the community and show that, you know, we’re better, we’re all better than this,” he concluded, “and how to lead by example.”
