I sometimes say that my particular “beat” as a PJ columnist is spotting examples of stupidity and explaining why they’re stupid. You’d think I’d have something every day, but the truth is I see so many examples I end up like the donkey in the precise center of a ring of bales of hay, unable to go to one because it means leaving the others.
So this column isn’t about something stupid so much as it’s one on the topic “are they fools or do they just think we are?”
I’m sure most PJ readers are at least more or less up to date on the topic of the “impeachment” “investigation.” Yesterday, the excitement was over House Republicans insisting on being admitted to the basement Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) in which the Democrats are taking testimony. As usual there’s a convenient minor point — the House Members bringing their phones — being pushed over the real story, which is that while House Members in general aren’t being allowed to see the transcripts in toto, and are not allowed to see any documents unless a Democrat staffer can nursemaid them, selected parts of those interviews are being leaked with wild abandon by the Democrats.
The excuse is that the Democrats don’t want people to be able to coordinate their testimonies.
So let’s examine that. It’s a simple syllogism.
- If the transcripts are released, witnesses might be able to coordinate their testimony.
- Large parts of the testimony are being released — leaked — by the Democrats.
- It therefore follows … well, let’s leave that as an exercise for the interested reader.
